The 5th Bengaluru International Film Festival has set up various sections for the film festival starting from 20th of December to 27th December 2012.
One among the many sections is 100 years of Indian cinema. In the 78 years of Kannada cinema Dr Rajakumar and Dr Vishnuvardhana are only two popular personalities on silver screen and out of 200 plus films each they have acted there are many memorable ones like ‘Nandi’ and ‘Boothayyana Maga Ayyu’. ‘Nandi’ was an experimental cinema by ace director N Lakshminarayan. A film like ‘Bangarada Manushya’ evergreen cinema does not find a place but a film like ‘America America’ gets an entry.
The two pillars of Kannada cinema are Dr Rajakumar and Dr Vishnuvardhana. According to the opinion collected a separate section of these two giants’ films was needed. ‘Boothayyana Maga Ayyu’ that feature Dr Vishnuvrdhana is the only representation.
By the by the real meaning of 100 years of Indian cinema celebration means there should be at least one film representation from each major languages of this sub continent.
In a state government sponsored 5th BIFFES that is conducted in association with KCA and Information department indulging the film societies such grave omissions were not expected.
